Essential Duties
POSITION OVERVIEW 
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director for Leadership
Development (ADLD), the Area Director is a full-time live-in
professional staff member responsible for community development and
facilities management in a multi-cultural residential education
program housing 1250 residents in apartment-style living.

•       Staff Supervision and Student Development: Supervises a team of 11
Resident Advisors (RA), one IMPACT Advisor, and one Student
Coordinator. This supervision includes weekly/biweekly individual
meetings, weekly small and large staff meetings (evenings),
Residential Education staff meetings, development sessions, and
quarterly evaluations. Assists in the indirect supervision of the
entire 23 member RA team
•       Living Learning Community: Facilitates the development of the
University Village’s LLC: IMPACT – Integrating My Personal and
Academic Tracks. Motivate student involvement and student governance
in all aspects of the program.
•       Training: Creates, plans, implements, and presents at Fall and
ongoing RA training sessions in conjunction with other members of the
Residential Education, professional, student leader, and student
staff.
•       Student Conduct: Assists the ADCS with the application of the FHS
conduct review and restorative justice process.
•       Counseling and Crisis Management: Serves on rotation of 24 hour,
on-call responsibility, including participating in weekend and holiday
duty (available on cell-phone, able to respond in person in a
reasonable amount of time). Duties include ensuring Village property
is secured daily, responding to crisis situations, and serving as a
resource for the RA staff.

Qualifications and Experience
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
•       Master’s degree in student affairs/student development/higher
education or related field
•       Strong customer service background 
•       Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with
students/residents or employees of the organization
•       Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and
draw valid conclusions

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Foundation Housing Services/The University Village, is a
multi-cultural residential education program housing 1250 residents in
apartment-style living. As of September 1, 2017, all 23 California
State University campuses are tobacco and smoke free.
