California State University, Chico invites applications for the position of Assistant Director for Capital Projects. POSITION: The UHFS Assistant Director for Capital Projects will work under general direction and be responsible for developing and managing all UHFS capital projects. The incumbent will continually review and update UHFS Associate Director of all project needs for construction, renovation and remodeling based upon life, safety, operational, and accommodation needs. Duties include: oversee all aspects of the day-to-day project activities (architectural, construction, engineering, design, procurement, etc.); monitor and coordinate inspection and communication between all parties involved in the project (contractors, vendors, staff, campus entities, etc.) to expedite project delivery and minimize disruption; research construction techniques and technologies; document and prepare reports for campus administration; review and ensure all CSU policies, procedures, and regulations are followed; monitor budgets and schedules; provide proposals for projects including estimated budgets, design, materials and specifications; inspect projects for specifications and quality control; attend meetings and participate on committees; coordinate testing services; coordinate construction acceptance including turnover of operation and maintenance data and record drawings; coordinate training of UHFS maintenance staff for operation of new equipment; approve expenditures, change and purchase orders, and invoices; track warranties; develop, maintain, and oversee safety programs and records; work cooperatively and productively with all on- and off-campus clientele; make decisions that are in the best interests of the University; backup duties in the Associate Director's absence; and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires the equivalent to a four-year degree from a college or university with a major in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or closely related field or a total of five (5) years experience managing construction of buildings, facilities or equipment. Also requires working knowledge of: modern capital construction practices, processes, and materials; administrative practices related to project development, implementation, and management; safety protocols; estimating costs; and scheduling projects. Must be able to demonstrate success in working on diverse teams and with multiple customers; excellent oral and written communication, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organization skills; and office automation and computer skills with emphasis on facility design, budget control, and construction scheduling software. Must possess the ability to: make sound decisions in a timely manner; provide direction and leadership to achieve goals in a timely manner; conduct and control meetings; stay focused; work independently; adjust to change (i.e., work environment, technology); work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and others; function cooperatively and productively as a member of a team; and perform the essential functions of this position.

PREFERENCES: Preference will be given to applicants with technical and/or administrative experience in an institution of higher education, including CSU system documentation, policies and methodology.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: If education was a qualifying factor for this position, a conditional offer of employment will be made to the successful candidate pending receipt of a sealed, official transcript providing evidence of educational attainment. The incumbent will be required to pass an employment physical examination and a fingerprinting/background clearance, and must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license.

The salary range is $55,000 - $60,000 annually (exempt), commensurate with education and experience. The position includes an attractive benefits package, including sixteen hours per month vacation accrual and tuition fee waiver (if eligible). This is a full-time 12-month management position and the conditions of employment are governed by the California State University Management Personnel Plan. Under this plan employees are subject to normal management reviews and serve at the pleasure of the University President.
