Summary of Job Description
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Students for Residential Education and Services, the Assistant Director has overall responsibility for the department for all hall, building and Housing wide educational, cultural, recreational and social programming. In addition the Assistant Director has shared responsibility for the selection, training, and evaluation, and sole responsibility for the supervision of 1 Lead Resident Assistant and up to 9 Resident Assistants (RA's) in a residence hall community of up to 274 primarily first and second year residents. Job duties also include providing after-hours duty coverage and responding to emergencies for the entire residential community of up to 1,092; counseling and referring students (individually and in groups); committee work within Residential Education and Services and with other Concordia offices; and working cooperatively with other campus departments such as Campus Safety and Security, Admissions, Dining Services, the Wellness Center, and the Center for Student Leadership and Development. As a part a team, he/she assists the Associate Dean in the overall Residential Education and Services departmental operation. This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in, career position.
Education and/or Experience
The Assistant Director will have the following minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required; 2) 1-2 years experience working in housing or residential life in a college/university community setting; 3) Experience in programming, supervision of student staff, crisis intervention, counseling, leadership, advising, student conduct adjudication, and college student development theory and application. Coupled with the minimum qualifications, it is preferred that candidates have 1) A Master's degree in College Student Affairs, Administration, Counseling, or related field; 2) Experience working in a Christian liberal arts institution; and, 3) Budget and accounting skills.
