Title: Asst Dir., Residential Living
Location: Main Campus-Berkeley
Starting salary range: $43,500 - $55,000 (proposing equity increase)
Job Description:
The Assistant Director, Residential Living oversees the programmatic and supervisory
responsibilities of their residential living area. Each area houses 1500-2000
students. The Assistant Director is responsible for the daily programmatic responsibilities
and crisis management that occurs in a living community of this size. There
are three Assistant Directors within the Residential Living Unit of the Office
of Student Development.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision, training and evaluation of 3-5 professional live-in
Resident Directors (RDs) and indirect supervision
of 30-50 Resident Assistants, 3-5 Program Assistants, and 1-3 Theme Program
Advisors
- Respond to emergencies and crises as they occur in the residences
- Ensure that staff provide support to residents and student staff as needed
and initiate appropriate referrals to campus and community resources
- Oversee all programming in supervisory area
- In consultation with PCA Staff coordinate residential aspects of summer Pre-Collegiate
Academy Program
- Coordinate Residential Sustatainability Program
- Functional supervision of Program Assistants
- Work with Resident Directors and campus partners to provide leadership and
direction to Global Environment Theme Program, Women in Science and Engineering,
and Unity House theme programs
- Provide leadership development planning and opportunities for staff
- Assure the timely and thorough completion of conduct processes and provide
regular reports to Director on conduct related issues and trends in assigned
area
- Oversee the hiring, training, placement, and supervision (directly and indirectly)
of summer residence hall staff
Requirements & Qualifications:
Required:
-Supervisory experience
-Programming experience
-Strong verbal, written, interpersonal and virtual communication skills
-Staff training experience
-Crisis management
-Project management skills
-Commitment to student development & social justice
-Bachelors degree or related experience
-3+ years experience in residential living or higher education
Desired:
-Advanced degree or equivalent experience
-Experience with Living/Learning programs
-Awareness of student affairs, theories and practices
-Advanced degree or related experience in higher education, counseling or related
field
Other:
Some nights and weekends
Driving preferred; if driving DMV check & CA drivers license required
