Contract Position.
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Residential Life, the Complex Coordinator shares responsibility for the selection, training and supervision of 29 Resident Advisors and supervising the residence life activities of approximately 1900 Mesa Court residents here at the University of California Irvine. Job duties also include advising hall educational, cultural, and social programming; advising groups; counseling and referring students (individually or in group); assisting with residence hall classes, committee work within housing and with other student service offices; and working cooperatively with other campus agencies such as UCIPD, Counseling Center, and Health Services including Health Education. The Complex Coordinator serves as a hearing officer in Mesa Court for the student judicial process.

Percent of Time: 35%
STUDENT STAFF SUPERVISION
Co-responsible for the administration, selection, training and supervision of
the MC student staff
Serve on the RA/HA selection and training committees.
Organize and/or provide training as part of the RA fall training as well as
in-service training throughout the year.
Update and edit the RA Manual.
Foster unity and teamwork through training, weekly meetings and personal contact
with the RA staff.
Provide effective communication between CP s and RA s and both professional
and Mesa student staff, as well as between students and other CP s and RA s

PROGRAMMING AND EVENT PLANNING
Coordinate and evaluate all in-hall programs that are educational, social, cultural
and recreational in nature.
Encourage volunteer participation in community activities and recruitment for
leadership positions.
Assist in the development and evaluation of hall programs and community-based
activities for Mesa Court.
Present community/hall workshops and classes on a variety of student life issues
and topics as needed.
Assist the Associate Director of Residential Life in the development of goals
and objectives for the residential life program.
Coordinate relevant administrative processes for programs including monitoring
budgets, evaluation and tracking.
Support departmental initiatives around programming including the First Year
Initiatives program, theme halls, and/or transfer/second year programs.

Percent of Time: 20%
SPECIAL INTEREST HALLS
Coordinate and oversee programmatic efforts in academic-theme oriented halls
including Campus Wide Honors and First Year Experience Programs,
Advise special and open interest halls.
Assess the academic needs of Mesa Court residents to develop programs that meet
those needs
Develop and advise educational, recreational and social programming.
Interpret and apply university and housing policy.
Develop, implement, and evaluate academic theme efforts.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Provide evening and weekend coverage for Mesa Court as well as other undergraduate
housing units as scheduled.
Respond to emergencies including safety and security problems, student crises,
physical plant problems, and programmatic concerns.
Intervene, counsel and advise students in personal conflicts; maintain consistent
application of community and university policies and regulations; intervene
and counsel residents on behavioral, emotional, health and safety issues; serve
as contact and/or mediator for roommate conflicts; counsel individuals or groups
regarding personal and/or academic needs and university policy.
Advise students on room change and contract cancellation policy and procedure.
Develop and implement conduct procedures; make recommendations regarding disciplinary
actions to be taken; make referrals of serious cases to the appropriate campus
authorities.
Establish and maintain liaison relationships with other campus and community
services that specifically relate to the goals and objectives of the residential
life programs, services and operation as well as the academic emphasis within
Mesa Court, e.g. Campus Police, Health Services, Counseling Center, Disabled
Student Services, Cross Cultural Center, Interfaith, Dean of Students, Dining
Services, faculty, Campus Wide Honors Program (CHP), Division of Undergraduate
Education and Academic Support Service offices.
Assist with the planning and implementation of the Disaster Preparedness response
plan for the department as necessary.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
Serve on the Mesa Court Management Team.
Serve on the Mesa Court Residential Life Team.
Serve on the Undergraduate Housing Management Team
Prepare written reports to the Associate Director of Residential Life regarding
staff performance, student discipline, hall activities, etc. as requested.
Provides input in the overall budget.
Participate in various departmental and campus committees and work groups as
assigned.
Respond to emergencies including planned disaster responses as appropriate.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
