RESIDENT DIRECTOR
POSITION
ANNOUNCEMENT
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
A full time, live-in position responsible for the management of traditional residence hall with approximately 300 undergraduate students.
Resident Director will:
* Supervise,
train and evaluate 8-10 Resident Advisors (RAs) and Office Assistants.
* Provide limited academic and personal counseling and referrals to other campus
offices when necessary.
* Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programming offered
by RAs.
* Maintain daily office hours and project a high degree of visibility and availability
to residential students and paraprofessionals.
* Investigate and respond to the issues and concerns of students, parents, university
faculty/staff members, and others in a manner that provides accurate information
and good public relations.
* Interpret and communicate policies and procedures to students, staff, parents,
and others.
* Serve on Student Life and University committees and represent the department
of Housing and Residence Life.
* Work closely with Facilities Management to maintain a safe and clean living
environment.
* Participate in selecting and training paraprofessional staff.
* Assist in the room selection process for residential students.
* Advise one Resident Peer Conduct Board or serve as Administrative Conduct
Coordinator for the department.
* Share responsibility for on-call duty coverage, 7 days a week, 24 hours a
day, including holidays
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelors Degree is required and a Masters Degree in College Student Development or related field is STRONGLY preferred; previous residence life experience is also strongly preferred. Leading candidates will have knowledge of and commitment to diversity education, understanding of student development theory and practice, and the ability to handle student concerns and crises in a calm and professional manner. Other important characteristics include; personal integrity, excellent oral and written communication skills, creativity, strong administrative skills, the capacity to function well autonomously, plus the ability to work effectively with the many constituencies in a small university environment.
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Salary commensurate with experience. Furnished apartment and meal plan provided.
GENERAL UNIVERSITY INFORMATION
Located in Southern California and founded in 1861, Chapman is a private, comprehensive University with approx. 5000 enrolled students and approx. 1600 students living on campus. Currently, there are several on-going and planned construction projects that will significantly increase the number of students living on campus in the near future.
