A career,
full-time position. Schedule of hours is 30 office hours/week (during the day)
and 10 hours/week attending evening or weekend meetings or activities. Required
to attend evening and weekend meetings and activities. Required to perform on
a scheduled, rotational, on-call duty. Must follow all policies and procedures
in the Resident Director Manual.
Essential Functions:
Housing Services is a multi-faceted organization reporting to the Vice Chancellor
for Administration at UC Riverside. Housing is comprised of: Residence Life,
Maintenance, Grounds, Housekeeping, Assignments, Business/Administration/Finance,
and Dining Services. Housing Services provides on-campus living to over 5,000
undergraduate and graduate students who live in residence halls, apartments,

Under the
general supervision of the Assistant Director for Residence Life (AD), the Resident
Director (RD) is a full-time, 12-month, live-in position and will serve as a
member of the Residence Life Professional team. The RD will be responsible for
resident orientation to community living; resident counseling; policy enforcement
and jurisprudence; on-site crisis response; student organization advising; student
programming; student staff recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation;
housing management; and special projects. The RD will provide a variety of support
services to the residential students and assist with the management of the housing
program. The residential facilities include residence halls, apartments, and
family housing.
Minimum Requirements:
" Bachelor's degree in a related field.
" Two year's job experience in residential life or a related field.
" Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role including responsibility
for selecting, evaluating, directing, disciplining, and complaint resolution
of a student residential staff.
" Prior experience managing a residential facility.
" Prior job experience and ability to plan, organize, and promote student
programs and activities.
" Demonstrated
experience to show sensitivity to the needs of students of diverse social, cultural,
economic, and educational backgrounds, with the ability to resolve conflicts
and defuse emotionally charged situations.
" Proven skill to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
with college students, residential student staff, and professional staff.
" Demonstrated skill to effectively counsel students and advise student
conduct cases.
" Proven skill in listening, anticipating, and responding to the needs
of a diverse staff.
" Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate,
both orally and in writing, using tact and diplomacy with the campus community
including student, parents, faculty, staff, and co-workers.
" Strong interpersonal skills.
" Demonstrated skill in time management including the ability to multi-task
ensuring that multiple deadlines are met.
" Proven skill to maintain strict confidentiality and work effectively
under pressure.
" Demonstrated skill to proficiently operate a PC for word processing,
maintaining databases, creating spreadsheets, and preparing reports using Microsoft
Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook or comparable software.
" Skill in working effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
" General working knowledge of student housing theories and operations.
" Thorough knowledge of student development principles, practices, ethics,
and philosophies in higher education.
" Commitment to addressing issues of inclusion.
" Hired applicant must possess a valid California Driver's License; and
must successfully pass a background check through the Department of Justice.
Preferred Qualifications:
" Master's degree in Higher Education Administration or Counseling or related
area.
" Previous experience supervising residential student staff and/advising
residence hall government.
" Prior experience in leadership development, student programming, and
student group advising.
" Prior experience in and knowledge of principles, practices, and philosophies
associated with University housing, with a working knowledge of the laws governing
University housing.
" Ability to interpret, support, and apply UCR campus policies and procedures.
