Introduction

  April 4, 2001

Dear WACUHO Leaders,

On behalf of the Executive Committee of the Western Association of College and University Housing Officers (WACUHO), I am pleased to welcome you to your new position as a committee chair or as an Executive Committee officer. The ability of our association to attain its goals is directly related to the quality and service of volunteers such as you. Thank you so much for making the commitment to continue the wonderful work of our organization.

Over the years, this leadership manual has been shaped and honed by your predecessors to be an effective tool to aid you throughout your leadership tenure. Virtually any policy or process related question you may have is answered within these pages. I encourage you to read it now, in its entirety, as you begin your tenure. Not only will it provide you with valuable information regarding your committee, it also will help you better understand the totality of our organization. Over the past 45 years, WACUHO has amassed a great tradition and heritage that helps guide our work. While I encourage you to be on the cutting edge of change as you develop your committee goals, I also encourage you to embrace our history and learn from the challenges and successes of those that came before you.

One of the many benefits of serving as a leader in WACUHO is having the opportunity to develop lasting friendships with the many talented colleagues who serve on committees. I am confident that you will find this year to be a fulfilling and memorable experience. Thank you again for volunteering your time and talents, and best wishes for a successful and rewarding year.

Sincerely,

Carol Roberts-Corb
WACUHO President, 2000-2001
