Scholarship Policy

WACUHO currently provides four scholarships; one New Professionals scholarship for WTI, two New Professionals Scholarships for the Annual Conference and a $500 scholarship to the National Housing Training Institute (NHTI). The monies designated for these scholarships were intended to offer financial assistance for the recipient(s) attendance at various conferences throughout the year. It is understood that in some instances the scholarship amount may not defray all expenses associated with conference attendance. In those instances it is expected that the recipient or his/her institution will need to augment the balance.

The WTI Scholarship is a $500 scholarship open to a new professional attending WTI. Selection is made through the New Professionals Committee. The scholarship covers the cost of registration and the remaining balance may be applied toward travel costs to the conference.

There are two $500 scholarships awarded to new professionals attending the annual conference. Selections for these scholarships are also made through the New Professionals Committee. The scholarship covers the cost of registration and the remaining balance may be applied toward hotel or travel.

The NHTI Scholarship is split among all attendees from WACUHO. A more formal process of awarding the scholarship needs to be completed this year.

There is a "fifth" scholarship however, it currently is not being funded by WACUHO as a result of ACUHO-I Foundation's support of this scholarshis through a donation from Adden furniture. The John Yarborough Scholarship is awarded to the top program presenter(s) of the Annual Conference. This program then goes on to ACUHO-I's conference as the "Best of the West" program. The Program Committee at the Annual Conference selects the winner(s). Depending upon the number of presenters, the award may or may not sufficiently cover the cost of ACUHO-I attendance. If the top program presenters are unable to attend the conference, the award will be granted to the #2 program presenter, and so on.

After any of the selections are made for the scholarships, the Association's Treasurer and the registration chair of WTI and the Annual Conference need to be notified. If payment for registration has already occurred then a refund check can be made out to the individual or institution, depending on how the registration payment was originally made. The Treasurer can work with the scholarship winner to obtain appropriate receipts for reimbursement.

The number of scholarships and each amount is not to be modified. The four individual scholarships were established through the Executive Committee. Any changes must go before the Executive Committee and would go in to effect the following fiscal year.
